Spring Season Overview The Buckhead
Baseball spring season offers programs for children between the ages of 5
and 12. Six separate leagues enable children to play with peers of similar
size and skill level, with the level of play increasing as they advance
through the program. A summary of each of the six leagues is presented
below: 5 and 6 Year Old Tee Ball Teams are generally assigned by neighborhood. Each team has 14 players. Special requests for coaches and friends cannot always be honored due to the large number of participants in the program. You should expect to hear from your coach around the middle of February at which time practices will start. Until the season starts, most practices will be at Frankie Allen Park. After that, practices will be held at either Northside Baptist Church, Wieuca Road Baptist Church, Sutton Middle School or Margaret Mitchell School. Tee Ball practices and games are limited to 3 events per week. Games are played on weekends and on weekdays at 5:30. A schedule will be sent out once the teams are determined.
7 Year Old Rookie League Commencing the spring of 2003, Buckhead Baseball decided to divide the five/six and seven year old children into two separate leagues with the five/six year old children playing Tee Ball and the seven year old children playing Machine Pitch. The result has been children of the same age being exposed to all fielding positions rather than the older children playing all the infield/important positions with the younger children being relegated to the outfield/other positions. Buckhead Baseball's goal for all five, six and seven year old children is to build enthusiasm for baseball while teaching the basics of the game in a fun, less competitive environment. A pleasant and fun experience will result in the children wanting to play at the next level. The Machine Pitch league is more competitive than the Tee Ball league with score being kept in each game. The idea behind having a machine pitch to all batters is to have the children become accustomed to seeing the ball released from a regulation distance. The league does not lose sight that the children are only seven years old and only beginning to learn the game of baseball. Game are played on Weekdays and Weekends with two events per week.
8 Year old A League A league is for 8 year olds. Children hit off a pitching machine. There are 8 year old tryouts and an 8 year old draft. This is how teams are determined. Until the season starts, most practices will be at Frankie Allen Park. After that, practices will be held at either Northside Baptist Church, Wieuca Road Baptist Church, Sutton Middle School or Margaret Mitchell School. Practices and games are limited to 3 events per week. Games are played on weekends and on weekdays at 5:30. A schedule will be sent out once the teams are determined
9 Year Old AA League This is the first year of player pitch and is for 9 year olds. Children are drafted into teams after tryouts. Games are played on weekends and on weekdays at 5:30 and 7:30. A schedule will be sent out once the teams are determined.
10, 11, & 12 Year Old AAA League This League consists of 10, 11, and 12 year olds. Any 11 or 12 year old who is not drafted into the Majors will automatically be put into the AAA draft. If an 11 or 12 year old is not interested in playing in the Majors, he should contact the Player Agent when the tryout letters come out. 12 year olds are not allowed to pitch in the AAA league. Until the season starts, practices will be at Frankie Allen Park. After that, practices will be held at either Northside Baptist Church, Wieuca Road Baptist Church, Sutton Middle School or Margaret Mitchell School. Practices and games are limited to 4 events a week. Games are played on weekends and on weekdays at 5:00 and 7:00. A schedule will be sent out once the teams are determined.
11 & 12 Year Old Major League All 11 and 12 year olds are eligible to try out for Majors. To qualify for the Majors draft, a player must attend try outs. All 11's and 12's who are not drafted into the Majors will be put into the AAA draft. If an 11 or 12 year old is not interested in playing in the Majors, he should contact the Player Agent when the tryout letters come out. There are 10 Majors teams with 12 players. A maximum of 7 players can be from one age group (i.e., no more than seven 12 year olds on a team). Games are played on weekends and on weekdays. A schedule will be sent out once the teams are determined. Majors practices will be held at Frankie Allen Park or Northside Baptist Church, Wieuca Road Baptist Church, Sutton Middle School or Margaret Mitchell School. Practices and games are limited to 5 events a week.
